I was pleasantly surprised with our Lanzarote holiday, starting with the weather. Of course we all expect Lanzarote to be hot - but my concern was that Lanzarote was going to be too hot! But no, it was ideal in the sense that the island commonly has a breeze which serves to balance out the hot days nicely by making it comfortable. Also, the temperatures where not as 'baking hot' as I was fearing - helped again by the lovely dry heat without any humidity. Of course you need a pool to cool down when you have been lying in the sun for an hour of so, that's what it is all about, and Lanzarote found that right balance for me and I am not one for suffering uncomfortably hot days. On top of that, it was unnecessary for there to be any air-conditioning for sleeping at night again helped by the lack of humidity in the air.
Spanish Flies!
Now this part was really great - during out stat at Lanzarote in our time share at Costa Teguise there were hardly any flies or biting (or stinging) insects to bother us. This is excellent because when we generally stay in mainland Spain, the flies continue to hassle you so it was very nice to be left alone by our insectoid friends.
We could leave the timeshare balcony sliding doors wide open day and night (lights on) with little concern for intruding insects.
Probably the most commonly seen winged creatures were the collared doves, and one or two largish black wasp looking things pictured inset. These wasps did not bother us and do not sniff around like the wasps do in England. Perhaps anyone out there would like to enlighten me to what sort of wasps (if indeed these are wasps)they are - I would be interested in a geeky sort of way.
